Suggested Readings

These books are in alphabetic order by title.

  • The Candidate's Handbook...by Harvey Yorke. The Candidate's Handbook delivers the plan and the map, and a good deal of detail about what to expect along the way. It set the standard for campaign books in 1981, and has been in constant demand ever since. For more information click here.

  • Don't think of an elephant!...by George Lakoff. The essential guide for Progressives. Konw your values and frame the debate. For more information at Amazon, click here.

  • The Hammer; Tom DeLay, God, Money, and the Rise of the Republican Congress...by Lou Dubose and Jan Reid. Describes the very deliberate strategies being pursued to implement an extreme right-wing agenda to the detriment of the public welfare and of the principles of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The success of these strategies is quite frightening and, with the results of the recent elections, matters are, predictably, becoming even worse. For more information at Amazon, click here.

  • What's the Matter With Kansas?...by Thomas Frank. How the conservatives won the heart of America. For more information at Amazon, click here.

  • What We Do Now...by Valerie Merians and Dennis Loy Johnson. A collection of 24 essays with the topics covered including the direction and potential of the Democratic Party (with emphasis on formulating a coherent message), voting and election reform, the role and uses of the media, environmental issues, economic policy, international relations, and tax and fiscal policies. For more information at Amazon, click here.

  • With God on Their Side; How Christian Fundamentalists Trampled Science, Policy, and Democracy in George W. Bush's White House...by Esther Kaplan. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The success of these strategies is quite frightening and, with the results of the recent elections, matters are, predictably, becoming even worse. For more information at Amazon, click here.
